Episode 108: Water Works

The red team returns from the elimination room minus Rashmi. The Filipino alliance is strong, leaving Nadia the only non-Filipino member left on the red team. She fears elimination if her team loses the week’s weigh-in. Hafiz, on the other hand, is happy that Christine is still in the game but his Blue teammates aren’t thrilled that he’s losing focus on the competition with his affections for Christine growing by the day.

The next morning, Kristy arrives at the gym to find out that Rashmi has been eliminated from the game. While Kristy is disappointed that the red team lost the previous weigh-in, she isn’t surprised by her exit since Rashmi had lost the least amount of weight in the entire red team so far.

Carlo lets on to Kristy that not only was the weigh-in lost by a mere kilo difference between the Blues and Reds, the team’s decision to vote out the last contestant was divided, with 2 votes going to Christine instead of Rashmi. This causes Kristy to express further disappointment in the red team.

Kristy lets loose on Christine, insisting that the only reason she is still in the house is simply because of the Filipino alliance, and yells at Christine in frustration, “That kilo we lost by, that could’ve been you training your ass off!”
Carlo disagrees, “I think Christine feels that because there are Filipinos on the team, that she’s safe. But there are no free rides on the red team.”
Meanwhile, Dave is thrilled to see the blue team fully intact. He is especially proud of David who had won the last weigh in as the week’s ‘Biggest Loser’ Nonetheless, Dave urges the blue team to pick up the pace in training this week, to avoid hitting the dangerous plateaus that have previously plagued some of their members.

While the men on the red team continue to train hard, the women are still a cause for concern in the week’s training. Injuries continue to plague both Christine and Nadia. Their lack of drive in the gym frustrates Kristy, .
“Christine wasn’t even going fast enough to keep the machines on, and I really do hope that she flicks the switch, otherwise it’s her head on the chopping block if we lose the weigh-in.”
Following doctors orders, Tony skips training to rest at the villa while the rest of the blue team continue to train even harder to seal their stay on the fat camp.

Dave stresses, “The blue team won the weigh-in by 1 kilo, that’s not a convincing victory, that tells me that it could have gone either way. We need to continue to push hard, every single day, every single session, every single minute.”
Back at the villa, Tony makes a skype call to his family in Thailand to inform them about his recovery since returning from the hospital. The encouraging words from his family prove to be just what the doctor ordered for Tony.
However, Tony continues to struggle during training the next day, and is visibly weaker than ever before. He remains determined to make up for lost time in the gym and relies on Dave who urges him to remain on track, “Remember, give your body the space and time it needs to gently ease back into our routine.”

At this week’s challenge, the contestants are greeted by Sarimah standing in the rain and flanked between 2 Renault cars. They are told that this week’s challenge requires strength, endurance, and teamwork. Each team will pick four team members, two male and two female. One member will steer while the remaining three members will pull the car all the way to the finish line. The fastest team to finish wins.

The red team pick Nadia to steer while the Filipino alliance provides what Carlo calls, ‘the Filipino power under the hood’. Meanwhile, the blue team decides to sit out Tony and Hafiz while Martha steers for Marilyn, David, and Aaron.
The Blues take an early lead, while the Reds struggle to find momentum and get slowed down by a speed bump on the road. Within minutes, the blue team breezes through the finish line for the win. The red team looks more defeated than ever.
Sarimah takes the opportunity to announce a surprise in the competition. She reveals that in addition to the US$100,000 cash prize, the stakes have been raised and the winner of the competition will also be driving home a brand new Renault Koleos SUV worth US$70,000! The contestants are visibly pleased with the news and are more determined to become Asia’s first Biggest Loser.

The Blues return to the villa to find their reward for winning the week’s challenge - a box filled with letters from home.

Marilyn receives a letter from her husband in Singapore, and tears well up in her eyes as soon as she begins reading. Tony receives photographs from his girlfriend, including a photo of his precious orchid garden that he’s left behind in Thailand.
David receives a letter from his fiance in Indonesia, while Hafiz receives words of encouragement from his entire family. It is an emotional moment for the Blues, who find themselves more motivated to triumph the week’s weight loss.
The red team begin their Last Chance Workout, determined to stay away from the elimination room. Even Christine, who had a slow start earlier in the week, shows a vast improvement in the gym.
Back at the villa, the blue team devises a team tactic to beat the Reds. With what they call a water-loading strategy, the Blues who have to sit out of the weigh-in will have to drink lots of water and gain water weight at this week’s weigh in…which will sneakily result in a bigger weight loss the following week when their weight actually counts. This week, the blue team decides to sit out Martha and Marilyn from the weigh in.
At the weigh-in, Marilyn starts off with a two kilo weight loss. Up next, Martha contributes a shocking zero weight loss. The red team, however, are shocked and disappointed at Martha and Marilyn’s decision to water load, as they feel this is breaching integrity in the competition.

The weigh-in officially starts with Christine stepping up for the red team with a four kilo weight loss. Christine is happy with the result, knowing that her efforts that week had paid off. David steps up next for the blue team and pulls a three kilo weight loss. Carlo is next to step-up on the scale, and pulls a respectable four kilo weight loss for the red team. Aaron then meets Carlo’s result with a four kilo weight loss for the blue team, bringing the score to 8-7 with the reds leading by one.
Another four kilos is added to the red team’s weight loss when Nadia steps up on the scales. She is extremely pleased with her performance, given the fact that she had been struggling with her ankle injury. Hafiz however, doesn’t disappoint and quickly matches Nadia’s score with the same amount of weight loss. At this point, the red team still lead by a kilo with a score of 12 to 11.
Kevin steps up next, with the hopes of pushing the reds to a comfortable lead ahead of the blues and contributes four additional kilos to the Reds’ score. Bringing the red team to a decent five kilo lead at 16-11. It’s all smiles for the red team, who are pleased that every single member fared well in this week’s weigh-in.

Christine is convinced that the red team have done well enough to win this week’s weigh-in, “We all worked our butts off and it showed this week, I think we have this! We are so gonna win the weigh-in this week!”
However, the game is not over with Tony left to weigh-in for the blues. He needs six kilos to win it for his team, but with his absence the previous week due to kidney stones, he is uncertain if he has lost enough weight. He steps up on the scales and produces the biggest weight loss result of the night with a whopping 10 kilos, earning himself the title of this week’s biggest loser and winning the weigh in for the blues.

With a score of 21-16, the blue team are jubilant and celebrate their landslide victory while the red team are heartbroken. They cannot believe that the blue team has won again.
The red team heads back to the villa still in shock that they have lost the weigh-in again. The idea of Martha and Marilyn’s water loading strategy seriously upset the Reds, who are concerned on how conniving the game is getting. But for now, they must decide who to vote off at the elimination room – a decision that is especially hard to make since everyone on the red team worked their butts off, literally!
The red team with only 4 members remaining, heads to the elimination room, disappointed that the weigh-in they thought they had won, is once again sending them walking the path of shame.
Kevin is the first to vote, choosing Nadia to go home. He is visibly emotional at having to make a decision to vote her off, but shares that he’s voting Nadia out because of how badly she is missing home.
Nadia is next to vote, and reveals that she has written Kevin’s name down. Nadia is quick to point out that her vote for Kevin is a vote of confidence and not one against him.
Unfortunately for Nadia, Christine and Carlo vote her out, making it a unanimous decision by the Filipino alliance to keep their country flag flying high in this high-stakes competition.
Nadia takes her elimination graciously and bids a teary farewell to the red team. “This is something that I wanna continue, I’m gonna lose more weight definitely. I’m gonna wear that size 10!”
9 contestants remain in the competition for The Biggest Loser Asia prize.
